The Joan Miró Foundation was created by the artist himself with an initial fund mainly consists of his private collection, with the aim of establishing a Miró international point of reference in Barcelona, promote research and studies on Miró and contemporary art and put in value its fund. The Foundation opened to the public on June 10, 1975 and since then has been a dynamic space in which the art of Joan Miró coexists with the most contemporary artistic creation.
